As a Black woman, a healer, and a mother, I’ve learned that calm doesn’t just appear, we create it. When we rise with intention, we remind ourselves that peace is our birthright, not a luxury.
Start with Stillness
Before reaching for your phone or rushing to your to-do list, take one full breath. Let your shoulders drop. Feel your body arrive. Even a single minute of awareness can reset your nervous system and bring clarity to your mind.
This small pause becomes your first act of self-care, a gentle boundary between your inner world and everything waiting outside of it.
Make Tea a Meditation
There’s something deeply grounding about preparing a warm cup of tea. As the water heats and steam rises, breathe in deeply. Choose herbs that support balance, lemongrass for clarity, chamomile for calm, or ginger for gentle warmth.
Let the act of pouring, sipping, and tasting become a meditation. It’s not just a drink, it’s a ritual that says, I am here, I am present, I am cared for.
